From loathing travel, to being the best at it!! Journey of #TheTravelGuy

Yes! You read that right. Growing up I left our Ikeja home to Ajao Estate with my mum and had to move to Surulere to my grandparents house; as my secondary school was close to their place of work. Every morning their driver dropped them off at work in Marina, Lagos and proceeded to drop me off at Catholic Mission Street where I was a day student of King’s college, Lagos.

Why did I loathe travel(ing)? Well, my mum always told of how she had my elder brother in London, United kingdom which made him eligible for a British Passport. While in my case, she was days from putting to bed in London, but had to rush home due to the weather – alas i was born in Lagos, Nigeria. So I am proudly Nigerian through and through. I had figured the good Lord willed for me to achieve greatness on the soils of Nigeria, so here I am. 🙂

Growing up in Surulere with my Aunts and grandparents also contributed to my disdain for travelling, as they went abroad frequently during summers, all I did was anticipate chocolate and a clean copy of Argos Magazine. Unfortunately, a good number of my classmates would resume classes after the holidays only to add to the many unending stories about “the abroad”. Don’t get me wrong,I was happy for people that travelled wide, but was just nonchalant about making an effort or being the least bit interested.

A couple of years later, after completing my Secondary School, First degree and NYSC i got my first job in brand management, in Ikeja (a good number of my acquaintances see me as a #BrandGuy than a #TravelGuy, strange as it may seem). After just a few months, I went on to work at an Emergency call center also in Ikeja before the almighty call from Virgin Nigeria Airways.

While many people joined Virgin Nigeria Airways for the opportunity at a new firm, a better pay cheque, and whatever other reason. My main attraction was to be like Richard Brandson as portrayed in the now rested reality show “Rebel Billionaire”. He was just a tie-loathing fun loving dude that made money (i don’t think i am too far off, but maybe we can change the $ to N and take a few zeros off, but you get my drift with the fun + work bit).

After about 7 years in Aviation, i moved on to corporate travel, visa advisory and protocol in a 5 year stint which snowballed into the finished product #TheTravelGuy. Self thought, I developed the Art & Science of visa applications across various countries irrespective of personal and economic circumstances. My adventure has taken me to 9 countries across 4 continents and I have a good number more to attempt.

A combination of willingness to learn from others, research, experimentation and creativity has brought so much success for clients. It gives me great joy when they get their visas approved and proceed on their trips.

In recent times, i have added training and development for future travel consultants to my bouquet of services offered as well as an ebook “Fundamentals of Visa Processing”. Grab your copy NOW!!
